Henry Francis Diamonds
Diamond grading standards do not account for subtle variations such as blue or grey tones, internal strains, striations, or phosphorescence.
Some lab-grown diamonds are produced using shortcuts, such as lower-quality seed materials and chemical additives to accelerate growth, which can impact their overall quality and appearance.
There is also the risk of in factory grading using the growers factories and equipment. This means the same facility manufacturing the diamonds is also responsible for certifying their quality. This could create the appearance of a bias.
We don’t rely on spreadsheets, databases, or mass-market stock. Instead, we:
✔ Curate our selection—sourcing only from the most reputable suppliers that we have tested.
✔ Inspect every diamond personally—rejecting any that don’t meet our standards.
✔ Prioritise quality over efficiency—ensuring only the best diamonds make it to you.
By maintaining such high standards, our suppliers understand that we will only accept the highest-quality stones. By submitting lower-quality diamonds they risk ending our partnership. Our suppliers are incentivised to consistently supply access to their best stones.
Our goal is not efficiency, it’s excellence.
How Do You Inspect A Diamond
360 Videos?
We Put It To The Test
We ordered a diamond from a large, popular e-commerce site and were shocked by what arrived.
This diamond is a D Colour, VVS2 Clarity, 1 Carat Diamond
The diamond on the left appears significantly better than the one that has arrived. The diamond on the right shows a noticeable bowtie effect and has a greyish tone, appearing dull.

Lab Diamond Defects
Why do they matter? Because these defects aren't included in grading reports and can't be detected in 360 videos.
How do you avoid these defects? You can't, unless you inspect the lab diamond in person.

Causes:
-Excess boron.
Boron is used to try "undo" the brown tint caused by adding nitrogen, which speeds up the growth of lab diamonds.
Diamonds that are not specified as "fancy colour" are graded D-Z.

Causes:
-Vacancies in the crystal structure, caused by speeding up the growth of lab diamonds.
-CVD diamonds grown too quickly.
-Excess nitrogen, which is used to speed up the growth of lab diamonds.
Diamonds that are not specified as "fancy colour" are graded D-Z

Causes:
-Irradiated HPHT diamonds with excess titanium and aluminium
-CVD diamonds grown too quickly
-Graphite nanoclusters
-Metallic inclusions
-Post growth treating a brown diamond
Diamonds that are not specified as "fancy colour" are graded D-Z

Phosphorescent diamonds glow in the dark after exposed to UV light, they continue glowing for a few seconds or minutes even after the light source has been removed.
- Presence of boron can cause phosphorescence.
Not mentioned on grading report - must be tested for in person
